Diane Dean

Award winning artist Diane Dean works in mixed media/collage and encaustic (melted beeswax).  "My work is representational and draws on the colors and rhythms of nature.  I build layers of texture in my fine art pieces that push the boundaries of the 2D category."

Diane's paintings are created in a four step process.  First is the texture -- free form sculpting  done with papers, fibers, and even found objects with interesting shapes of holes through which she can push acrylic mediums. The sculpture is comprised of shapes and forms that are contrary to the image she plans to paint in the final step.  Next, she creates a loosely done abstract painting, mostly with fluid acrylics.  When the work is dry, Diane paints the more representational image, often with heavy body acrylics and palette knives.  Finally, the painting is sealed -- sometimes in a two-part resin.

Although Diane has been painting for over twenty years, she spent much of her professional life in the graphic arts technology field. She has presented seminars and lectures in graphic design concepts, color theory and the use of technology in the development of visual communications.

Diane's paintings have won numerous "Best of Show" awards throughout South Carolina and Georgia.  In addition to her many creative endeavors, Diane has served on the Board of Directors of a number of arts related organizations.
