David Ryden

David Ryden is an abstract expressionist whose work has been shown in galleries in North and South Carolina, Florida, Illinois, Texas and Colorado and now, with Teal, in Georgia.  He attended Colorado State University where he majored in animal husbandry, hoping to become a cattle rancher.  Originally inspired by his uncle, who was a respected and successful artist, David has won quite a few accolades himself for his work.  In 2010, the Palmetto Bluff Arts Commission chose only two artists from over one hundred, David being one, to exhibit their work at Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton, SC.  Conde Nast rated this first class resort number one resort community and number one inn in the United States.

David is drawn to animals from every continent and uses a palette knife and oil to bring his unique and colorful creatures to life.  He is mainly interested in surface and prefers to work on large canvases painting fast generous strokes.

"I am self-taught.  I like the freedom to try anything.  My paintings are infused with texture and depth.  I use an 8-inch palette knife and just go at it."  Painted to make people feel "enthused and excited," each of Davids animals has a personality of its own.

David's Golfer Nickname Series has been three years in development.  The collection of 18 paintings has pulled together his love for art and golf and given him the opportunity to meet many legends of the game.  The series is currently traveling to a few select locations where it can be viewed and enjoyed by fellow golfers at professional events.
