Bill Mead

Bill Meads imaginative work is widely collected and reflects his exceptional appreciation for the charm and natural beauty of the lowcountry.

"I never found reality all that interesting.  Imagination is what makes life worth living.  My brain is always trying to figure out whats real and what isnt.  For me, making art is the great escape from tedious drudgery.  When I turned fifty I realized half the things I worry about don't really matter and the other half doesn't even exist.  Reality and my perception of it are never the same thing.  My paintings give me the opportunity to juxtapose perception and reality."

"I believe Beaufort is surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.  The colors here are subtle.  Deep dark greens and rich browns.  Tomatoes and cucumbers grow here in abundance.  My paintings are basically landscape and still life combined.  An attempt to merge the spiritual with the sensual."

Bill's work is shown in galleries in Beaufort and Charleston and now, at Teal, in Atlanta.
